JOB DESCRIPTION
 

  • Place of work - Midstocket Playgroup, Rosemount Community Centre, Belgrave Terrace, Aberdeen AB25 2NS
  • This role is for 1 day a week (Thursdays) plus additional relief days, as and when required, to cover staff absence due to courses, training, sickness etc.
  • 38 weeks per year model (during normal school term time), working hours Monday - Friday from 0800-1530.
  • Our setting has both indoor and outdoor areas.
  • Rate of pay will reflect experience/qualifications but meets real living wage. Staff can join the NEST pension scheme.
  • All staff are required to join the professional register SSSC (Scottish Social Services Council). This post is subject to checks by Disclosure Scotland.

  • Midstocket Playgroup wants to recruit a highly motivated, enthusiastic and caring person as an Early Years Practitioner to work with our current team. Our team deliver quality early years education and care for children and families who attend the group. Providing the opportunity for children to play and learn outdoors and valuing this is critical to this role. 
  • Children are aged 2 years 6 months to 5 years in our setting. A qualification and/or previous experience of working with young children and families is desirable but not essential as training will be provided. 

 

Core duties

  • Contribute to planning and implementation of our programme which meets the needs of individual children in line with national and local standards. 
  • We use the guidance within Realising The Ambition and Curriculum for Excellence to do so. 
  • Promote child-led play in our outdoor and indoor environments.
  • Contribute to providing for the care, safety and well-being of the children in the group. Treat children sensitively and with respect, encourage and support children in the play session. The GIRFEC principles underpin programme delivery.
  • Observe and interact with children in order to support their learning
  • Contribute to the assessment and reporting of children’s progress
  • Communicate effectively as part of a team
  • Build positive and respectful relationships with the parents and families showing an understanding. A knowledge and understanding of the needs of children and their families and of cultural and diversity is important.
  • Keep up to date with early years initiatives and developments and participate regularly in CPL (Continuous, Professional Learning)
  • The wider role incorporates building links with the local community, fundraising activities and outings.
