Jumble Sale - Saturday 11th February, 2pm

  The Playgroup session

The playgroup sessions starts with approximately 15 minutes of free play, which allows late comers a chance to get here without missing anything. This is also a good chance for children to familarise themselves with the various toys and activities available that day.  For new children, this is a great time for them to talk to their parent/career about the activities on offer and to find something that they will feel comfortable and happy with whilst they are adjusting and settling in.

Following free time, the children sit and sing their welcome song, greet the playleaders and meet the Mum's on rota duty.  They also discuss the day, weather, and any other seasonal topics.  After this, the children run off to their favorite toy, or stay to pick a toy from the photo album.  Playgroup has an album of all the toys stored at playgroup, and the children are able to choose what they feel like playing with that day.

The large room has a selection of toys on display. These include role play, for example: an area of the hall is always either a kitchen, bedroom, station or cafe.  We have a quiet area for reading with comfy beanbags. Playgroup always have tables with a selection of jigsaws, puzzles, games, writing material and dressing up clothes and accessories.  A climbing frame and other soft play toys are available.  The small room has a selection of art material to encourage little budding artists.  A rolling selection of sand, water, shaving gel and other messy material is available.

Playgroup is fortunate to have a fabulous enclosed garden, which is accessed at every available opportunity, regardless of the weather.  A patch of the garden has been turned into a vegetable garden, with the children growing their own vegetables.  We also have a large selection of outdoor toys, designed for all weather conditions.

Mid session a snack is served, children are actively encouraged to help serve themselves, and to clean up afterwards.  We offer a different snack each day, some of which are: yoghurt, pasta, soup, toast, breadsticks and dips, garlic bread and pancakes. Every snack is served with a variety of fruit to eat and milk and water to drink.

The children finish their session with a story and song. Afterwards they stay in the safety of the small room, until they are handed over to their parent.

We also try to get out and about as much as possible.  With trips to the park being especially fun, not just for the children, but also a great way for the mum's to meet each other.  We also try to fit in outings, in the past we have been to Hazelhead Woods and the Central Library.
